We know that many people with a life-limiting illness would prefer to die in the comfort of their own home. However, it can be challenging, and families often need support caring for their loved one.
This is where our Hospice at Home service can help. We provide free nursing care to people across North Derbyshire in the comfort of their own home, throughout the day and night, 365 days a year.
As the need for our Hospice at Home service has increased rapidly throughout 2023, we’re now preparing for what’s set to be our busiest winter ever. We receive less than 20% of our funding from the Government, and must raise more than 80% every single year to keep our service running, so we really need your help.
Last winter, we were proud to support 126 patients to die in their preferred place of death: at home, in over 20 post code areas spanning the High Peak, Derbyshire Dales, North East Derbyshire and surrounding communities. We also supported 75 patients with regular respite visits, so that loved ones could take an essential break from the sheer exhaustion of caring for their family member, to rest, sleep or undertake important tasks like collecting medication.
As demand for our service surges, can you help us to support even more local people?
‘It was very apt that as Dad died in his own bed at home, he had myself and my sister holding his hands, while someone from the hospice was holding ours.’ Read Ben’s story.
