Myth: “Accepting hospice care means giving up”
Being diagnosed with cancer or a life-limiting illness can be a difficult time in someone’s life but choosing hospice care doesn’t mean giving up hope, in fact it’s the opposite. Many people say that they wish they’d accessed the hospice sooner as it gave them opportunities that they wouldn’t have had otherwise. Blythe House Hospice can support people to add quality to their life by providing the highest level of care for people in North Derbyshire who are affected by a life-limiting illness, and that includes support for close family members as well, so we would encourage people to get in touch and talk to one of our care navigators.
Myth: “Hospices are a sad place”
Although people often come to us during challenging times, Blythe House Hospice is so much more than people expect. Our hospice is filled with warmth, compassion, laughter, friendship, and support. Whether it’s enjoying an activity, sharing stories with loved ones, attending one of our groups, or simply spending time together, we’re here to help people live well and make every moment count.
Myth: “Hospice care is only for older people”
A common misconception is that hospice care is only for older people, but actually that’s not the case, we care for all adults over the age of 18 who are living with a life-limiting illness and support their loved once’s and carers throughout all stages from diagnosis right through to bereavement. We also support children and young people who have been bereaved or who are living with someone with a life-limiting illness.
