What is The Merry Mile?
The Merry Mile is a fun, flexible and inclusive run or walk that encourages children to get moving, get festive and give back.
Whether it’s a walk around the playground, a dash across the field, or a loop around your local park, it’s all about coming together for a great cause.
In 2025, 17 nurseries, pre-schools and primary schools across North Derbyshire raised an amazing £8,171 by taking part in the Merry Mile, helping to fund 200 hours of specialist support for children and young people who are affected by life-limiting illness or the death of someone they love.
We would be so grateful if your school would fit the Merry Mile event into your Christmas calendar this year.
How you get involved?
The process is quite simple, simply choose any date in November or December and a location that suits your school!
You can get involved as a whole school, or choose specific year groups to take part, and off course encourage pupils to dress in festive attire!
The most important thing is to make it fun, inclusive and full of cheer to support Blythe House Hospice!
For many children, the word “hospice” and “death” can sound unfamiliar or even frightening. By making fundraising fun and engaging, we can help children better understand the compassionate care hospices provide, while inspiring them to make a positive difference for families in their local community.
What will Blythe House Hospice provide?
- A short, engaging presentation/ assembly for pupils about the hospice and how they’re helping people in their local community
- The option of having one of the hospice team visit the children at school with Blythe Bear, our charity mascot.
- Access to a Just Giving campaign for anyone that wishes to donate online. Find the JustGiving page here!
- Sponsorship envelopes to send home with children for them to collect donations from friends and family.
- Festive headwear for all participants, if you wish. Alternatively you may choose for your pupils to make their own as part of their art lessons.
