A popular beauty event raising crucial funds for hospice care in the High Peak is set to return this month.
The Clarins evening will take place on Thursday 20th October, at Blythe House on Eccles Fold in Chapel-en-le-Frith.
Make up experts from the cosmetics company, Clarins, will host demonstrations, answer questions, give advice and support about skin care and make up products.
The event is organised by Vickie Poulson, from Tunstead Milton, who is now a devoted supporter of Blythe House Hospicecare and Helen’s Trust after working at the hospice for many years.
Vickie’s mum and dad, Lynne and Bill Wilson, were involved in the initial meeting to discuss fundraising for a local hospice, back when Blythe House was founded in 1989.
The family has continued to support the charity throughout its history, by sponsoring newsletters, events and other fundraising initiatives. After years of ardent help, the hospice was able to provide support to the Wilson family in 2019, when the Hospice at Home team cared for Bill before he died in the comfort of his home.
Vickie explained: ‘I spent 11 years fighting the Blythe House cause, helping to raise much-needed funds to continue to provide free care and services to those who really need them. I never thought that one day; I’d be on the other side of the fence, ringing the hospice to say “please help me.”
‘Dad received support from the day care services at the hospice, and when he became more poorly, the Hospice at Home team visited him at home.
‘Following Dad’s death in February 2019, the Hospice at Home healthcare assistant asked my Mum and the family: “Would you like me to stay with you?” The answer was a resounding “yes.” We had a group hug and drank lots of tea and coffee. She was there every step of the way – checking on Dad every half an hour or so; when the doctor came to certify his death, and helping to oversee everything with the funeral directors.
‘I know that many people will have a story to tell about the amazing Hospice at Home service, and that most of those people will have their very own special healthcare assistant. The healthcare assistant that was with us when Dad died really was one in a million; she took the pain and anguish of losing Dad away, and was there to support us during the most difficult time; we couldn’t have coped without her.
‘I have been organising and hosting the Clarins evening for many years now and it is always a popular opportunity for local people to get together pre-Christmas with family, friends and work colleagues to enjoy a night out with a glass of wine, freebies and the chance to win some amazing beauty-based prizes.
‘It is only £10 per ticket and every single penny of the money raised goes towards providing free hospice care to people like Dad, who wish to stay in the comfort of their own home as they near the end of their life, surrounded by their beloved family. There is not a more worthy cause that I am immensely proud to support, and I hope to raise thousands of pounds to see Blythe House services continue long into the future.’
