Sometimes, the person who has been diagnosed with an illness may not wish to access any additional services on top of their medical care and treatment appointments, but, as a family member or loved one, you can still seek a range of advice, support and therapies that you may find incredibly useful.
‘Brian said, “we’re alright, we don’t need any support,” but I wasn’t; I could feel that I was draining trying to care for Brian on my own. All through Brian’s illness he didn’t want any extra care and support. I of course respected his wishes as much as I could but my only regret is that I wish we’d had support from the hospice earlier. Everyone we met was fabulous; so kind, supportive and caring. Thank you doesn’t come close; I have no words for how grateful I am.’

‘I received support from George Downs, a welfare benefits officer who provided financial support and advice, which was just so beneficial to me. When you’re ill, your brain doesn’t work properly, so going through realms of paperwork with George’s support so was helpful.’ Read Christine’s story.
