Every clean, undamaged and sale-ready donation has the power to make a real difference. From clothing and homeware to books and toys, items sold in our shops help to provide comfort, dignity and care for people across North Derbyshire, supporting hospice services at home and in the community.
Only 28% of our running costs come from the NHS – the rest is raised through its charity shops, donations and fundraising events.
Marie Brown, Senior Retail Manager said: ‘We’re incredibly grateful for every donation we receive, and when items are clean, complete and ready to sell, they really do help us make every pound count. A simple check at home can turn a pre-loved item into vital care for someone in our community. However, when items are damaged, soiled or incomplete, the hospice must pay to dispose of them – costing the charity thousands of pounds each year that could otherwise be spent on patient care.
‘If you’re donating toys or jigsaws, sealing the box and letting us know it’s complete makes a huge difference. And if you’re unsure whether something is suitable to donate, our shop teams are always happy to help. This New Year, we’re asking people to donate thoughtfully so together we can reduce waste and increase the care we provide.’
Donations can be made at any of the hospice’s six shops – in Bakewell, Buxton, Chapel-en-le-Frith, New Mills, Matlock and Whaley Bridge – during opening hours, and for larger quantities or higher-value items, the charity also has a dedicated donation depot in Bridgemont, helping ensure valuable goods can be assessed and sold efficiently to maximise their impact.
By donating well, supporters can help protect the environment, reduce disposal costs and ensure more money goes directly towards patient care.
