Stan Blythe Buddies, Stars & Legends
Volunteering Programme – Inspiring kindness from an early age
At Blythe House Hospice, we believe that everyone—no matter their age—can play a valuable part in supporting their community. The Stan Blythe Buddies, Stars and Legends programme offers young supporters a range of fun, creative, and impactful activities designed to engage children and young people at every stage of their development. We provide tailored opportunities that encourage kindness, build confidence, and a sense of community.
Get in touch, we’d love to hear from you
If you are a young person who’s interested in getting involved, or a parent, carer, teacher, youth group leader interested in helping a young person get involved – we’d love to hear from you, and to welcome you into our Blythe House team.
Young volunteers are supported and celebrated throughout their time with us. We have tried to make suggestions to suit interests and availability, making space for fun, friendship, and learning along the way. However, we would love to hear from you if you have any other ideas or suggestions, we will always do our best to support.
We are excited to welcome our young supporters into the Blythe House family. Each age group’s activities are designed to inspire, educate, and empower, helping children and young people connect with our hospice’s values and community impact. Together, we can nurture compassion and make a lasting difference.

Why the awards are named after Stan Blythe
Our Buddies, Stars, and Legends awards are named in memory of Stan Blythe, a kind and thoughtful local teacher whose courage and compassion inspired the creation of Blythe House Hospice back in 1989.
When Stan became seriously ill, he was cared for by friends (including Betty Packham) and supported to die peacefully at home — just as he wished. After his death Reverend Betty Packham, used a gift he left to help start Blythe House in his name.
Stan believed in kindness, community, and helping others — just like you do. By taking part in this programme, you’re carrying on his legacy and making a real difference.
Thank you for being part of the Blythe House family.

Why we reward
We want every young volunteer to feel proud and valued for the difference they make — big or small. Our rewards are designed to celebrate milestones, encourage continued involvement, and build a sense of belonging in the Blythe House family.
How to track your progress
Keep a simple record of your completed activities – your family, teacher, or group leader can help. When you reach a reward milestone, just let us know, and we’ll send your certificate and badge to you!
We would be happy to sign off and act as your Assessor for any of the activities, should you wish to count them towards the Volunteering section of your DofE Award
